What Conditions Acupuncture Can Be Used For?

Acupuncture is not a cure-all and there has been a tendency in the past and to some extent still today to promote it as such. However, many common health conditions may respond well to this treatment. By respond is meant anything from a 20% improvement to complete resolution of the problem. Duration of response may be weeks to months or lasting.

As indicated elsewhere on the website, response rate depends on several factors ranging from general health, extent of the treated condition, prior surgeries and so on. Minor strains for example may see complete resolution and long-standing chronic conditions may have 75% to 80% or greater improvement after 6 to 8 treatments in a person of otherwise good health.

Acupuncture may be effective for a wide range of pain conditions such as:

Acupuncture may also be effective for:

This list is not exhaustive and in many cases it may be appropriate to undergo a trial of a few acupuncture treatments to see if it may be of help. Usually efficacy should be apparent by a maximum of 6 treatments so if by then there is no response the likelihood that further treatment would bring satisfactory results is greatly diminished.

Given the many factors that contribute to efficacy of acupuncture your condition will be assessed in the first appointment and as clearly as possible the appropriate treatment plan will be outlined. Every attempt is made to foster partnership with you and your other healthcare providers. The ultimate goal of independent wellness is always fostered.

Though minor side effects such as mild post-treatment soreness, tiredness or bruising can occur, acupuncture has been shown to be a safe procedure. See www.amjmed.com.
